Camel Caravan Fifth Edition

Camel Caravan 2019 is an advocacy initiative that will be jointly implemented by MID-P, Indigenous IMPACT, Isiolo Peace Link and Kivulini Trust. It is realized with support and participation of different funding partners, National Government, County Governments of Isiolo, Laikipia, Samburu and Marsabit, private sector and the communities.The Caravan will include communities residing in Isiolo, Laikipia, Samburu and Marsabit Counties. These communities will advocate on issues and consequences of the decreasing flow of Ewaso Ng’iro River and the dangers to their livelihoods. Further, the importance of promoting and maintaining peaceful coexistence for prosperity will be addressed. The communities living along the Ewaso Ng’iro use the camel as a symbol of resilience and the Caravan acts as a platform to engage with each other and relevant stakeholders. The aim is to share the challenges facing them, their environment, and their livelihoods. This is a continuation of the previous efforts that have been started in 2013. Training on Knowledge Management

This is another milestone, a vital growth for MID-P. Three day training on Knowledge Management (KM) was held in Kinna in July 2019 (5th-8th). The training has put MID-P on a new trajectory of focusing and utilizing its Knowledge based assets. The organization is deeply grateful to the Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (Cordaid) for supporting the training. KM is the process through which an organization generates value from intellectual and knowledge based assets. The purpose of KM is to gather, categorize, store and spread all knowledge that is needed to make the organization both grow and prosper.  Knowledge is generated from packaged information as well as from lessons learnt. An organization will not be knowledgeable accidentally.  Indeed growth does not happen via accident, it has to be planned for. Knowledge defines an organization and separates it from other competitors; therefore how MID-P manages knowledge will give it the edge over other organizations n the NGO Sector. County Government to Support Community Initiative on Control of Prosopis Juliflora

Hon. Mohamed Jirmo Goilicha, Member of County Assembly for Cherab Ward assured the Korbesa Community of support of the County Government of Isiolo towards  the new initiative to control Prosopis Juliflora (Mathenge) through utilization. After many years of complains Korbesa Community has finally embraced Mathenge as a resource. They formed Korbesa Biliqi Saleti Community Woodlands Forest Association (KOBISA). KOBISA is registered with the Office of the Attorney General and will be an avenue for controlling and managing the invasive species which has already taken up a big chunk of wetlands (chaffa). The wetlands forms part of the strategic grazing reserve for the dry period. A team from Marigat, Baringo County trained 45 members of KOBISA on different methods for controlling the species- charcoal production, value addition and planting of grass. The training was held at Korbesa Trading Centre in October 16-18, 2018. The MCA visited KOBISA during the training.

stakeholders meeting on Disaster Risk Management policy

The meeting was organized by Caritas Isiolo in partnership with Isiolo County Government and MIDP at Pastoral center Isiolo to discuss the way forward on the ongoing process of the Isiolo County Disaster Risk Management policy. An Action Plan was developed to lobby the Isiolo County Assembly to approve the draft policy

Learning visit to Makueni

MID-P supported county official from the  department of Environment and climate change to learn how to manage sand harvest control and public participation. Action plan was developed to review the existing Isiolo county Sand harvest control draft bill.
